Woman Who Suffer From Migraines More Prone To To Suffer From Depression

Patient suffering from chronic headache, specifically migraines, are more prone to be depressed, feel worn-out, and have a host of other strict physical symptoms, according to a study published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The medical investigation involved 1200 patient who buy seroquel at headache clinics in five countries. Of the women surveyed, 871 reported episodic headache (less than 15 headaches monthly) and 439 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the women were diagnosed with migraines.

The medical investigation found man with chronic headache were four times more inclined than those with episodic headache to report symptoms of major Manic Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also six times more likely to report a high degree of symptoms connected to headache, pain or puzzle during intercourse.

Among patient tested with severely disabling migraine, the medical research found the likelihood of major Major Depression increased 32-fold if the patients also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms could agitate or be a manifestation of major Depression in woman with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy maxalt online and Depression can heighten pain perception,” said clinical trial author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This dependence between migraine and major Psychotic Depression suggests a frequent neurobiology.”

Tietjen says clinical study are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Psychotic Depression can be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Careless of what’s causing the relation between migraine and Manic Depression, psychiatric disease such as Major Depression complicates headache management and can call forth poorer consequences for headache treatment,” said Tietjen.

The medical study was assistanced, in part, by the American Headache Society, which judges 18 million American woman suffer from headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 15000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to ameliorating man care through education and clinical trial. A neurologist is a surgeon with specialized training in diagnosing, treating and managing diseases of the brain and nervous system such as blow, Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, Parkinson disease, and repeated sclerosis.
